Back to top 3 years and still no grass!
Posted: Tue Jul 08, 2008 5:38 pm Well its been 3 years/Summers since we bought our house and our neighbor still has not put his grass down!

Unless he calls weeds grass. Its rediculas to look at every property in the cresent with new houses and nice grass/landscaping and then look at this eye sore having to be right next to me,with his weeds constantly creeping over on to our side.I have to pay for someone to come and Kill his weeds that is on my property!

Not to mention when we put a fence in we asked him to pay 50% for his side and he gave us a lame excuse for why he doesnt want to do it yet,we did it nevertheless since we small children and there is a river on all the property`s in the area so we paid for it all.
He has profited by not paying for a fence, from the neighbors near him.So he has a 4 foot fence on one side from one of his neighbors which is black and us with a 6′ fence which is brown.

Our next move is to call the city so he will be forced to do his landscaping!

That may not work. In many areas its in the CC&Rs, not local code, deal with landscaping. Also the definition is so broad, that its nearly useless.

For example, xeriscaping is a big thing in desert locations. People from the northeast think its just bad landscaping when its actually planned, and expensive.

Find out what the local municipal code says. Often times CCRs are MORE strict and are enforced with a heavy hand. In either case, nothing may happen until someone complains about it.

The other way to go, is to offer to help the guy. It could be done with much quicker and you might be happier with the outcome if you say, “Hey, lets go pick out some grass. I’ll even help you lay it.” Or you could install shrubs along the property to block the view.

That is not always the case. In California, should my neighbor put in a fence without my agreement or concurrence, I am not liable for 1/2 the cost. I would be if I tied into it.

Since and HOA was not mentioned, my assumption would be potential CC&Rs, but only enforceable in the courts. Its an expensive way to go to get some grass put in.

Posted: Tue Sep 09, 2008 5:23 am I been in my house for the pass 4 years. I mainly got weeds, no one took care of the lawn. Myself I just mow, as a single mother, I can’t afford to do the landscaping, bills come first. Not everyone has thousands of dollars to pay someone to do it. Personally I could careless what someone else’s property looks like. As long as they keep it mowed.

When I had a company put in my privacy fence, I didn’t expect the neighbors to pay for half of it. It was my choice to put the fence up. Which it’s inside of my property line.
