Old appliances, carpet, toilets, etc. litter the yard and they let their kids and animals play in it. The mess attracts rats.

If you committed yourself, you could probably learn the language of the rats and be the first human ambassador to the rodent empire. Then you could amass an army of rat-warriors and capture Austin, holding it for ransom. I’ll donate an android to be your second in command, if you so desire.
