Pregnancy is a condition that is precipitated sexually, but I feel that because in other instances of STDs one of the partners needs to be carrying the disease that is transmitted, it’s impossible to place pregnancy in that category. Men don’t carry pregnancy, nor real analogous version of it, so women who “catch” it aren’t picking up something that the cause (man) possessed (I’ve also already excluded the notion that sperm production could be considered a male parallel to pregnancy). I don’t think you can consider it a sexually transmitted disease for a couple of reasons. One is that it implies that the male has a disease already. A male who does not have any sexually transmitted diseases who still produces sperm would then have to be considered diseased. That would mean that a man’s sperm is inherently tainted in some way. A second reason is that if you view pregnancy as a disease, then the product of pregnancy, a human being, can be considered a disease as well! If you’re referring only to the 9 month period of the fetus’ development, which I think you are, then my objection isn’t a problem. A third reason and the last one I will address is the nature of the pregnancy STD. Once a woman gives birth, does she no longer have the STD or do traces of it remain? Perhaps the destroyed war zone that is her vagina post pregnancy would support the latter.
