Burbank, CA 91505 USBeverly doesn’t have to look out her second story bedroom window anymore to spy on the neighbors because Beverly installed (at second story level on three sides of her house) Ipix type surveillance cameras which have capabilities such as: infrared night vision, zoom-in, panning, motion detection and includes both audio & video. Now Beverly can look and listen into all her neighbors yards, homes, bedrooms, etc. through her PC. Additionally, these cameras have remote capabilities which she can view/operate, from anywhere with as little as a cellular phone. And to top that off, the surveillance systems seems to run on the same frequency as not only on some of the neighbors wireless networks, but both cellular and land-line wireless phones ~ talk about a Peeping Tom??? No, it’s Peeping Beverly who can hear and see everything you do or say.

If you get the chance please ask her why she has cameras/microphones. What she tells you will help you understand why she has them and what they are for. If the neighborhood is safe and has a low crime rate there is something wrong. However most states and municipalities don’t recognize the abuse of this type of equipment yet and therefore have no laws regulating the use of such equipment. I can understand having guns, dogs, or lights for security but cameras and microphones is above normal. Like I said if it’s a safe neighborhood she is for sure using this equipment for personal gain and to spy on others. If there are no laws regulating the equipment. Just go about your business. Just don’t say anything threating about her or her property when you are outside within range of her video/audio equipment. The other thing she could be doing and this is the creepiest thing of all and that is gathering enough information on neighbors to file a lawsuit against them for any number of possibilities. All you can do is watch what you say. Be safe and mind your f’s and c’s and d’s.

It’s not about the trash can in the alley story or the squirting the dogs with a hose. There are REAL reasons why she calls the police.

Beverly has done her homework. She has researched, posted, and is now physically documenting the activities around her home. She’s not stupid or pathetic.

People call the police for all sorts of reasons, many of them bogus.

Somethings are clearly missing in the data presented (wireless impact from a wired system).

In her situation I would go with the laser pointer out of the windows she does not want recorded. It means”Beverly” could still point the cameras elsewhere and be functional.

Finally you state that Beverly has “posted” where did she post?

Not sure what law was used to justify a court order about the lights. If you can get a citation, I would appreciate it. Court case number would be even better.

Speaking of the law, monitoring conversations in CA without permission is a not allowed. Something does not sound (pardon the pun) in what you have been told.

As for the no contact order, those normally require some justification. If it was done ex parte (without the neighbor notified or present), it can be reopened and reconsidered by the court at the neighbors request. At the very least it can be made mutual. Lawyers cost money, but they may be able to get one to do it cheaply.

Domed cameras suffer somewhat in acuity since the dome is not a perfect lens. The domes also defuse a laser somewhat, which makes jamming with them somewhat easier.

Since the cameras are wired, jamming the wireless signal is not viable. Hacking their network would also be most likely of no value. However since they are hard wired, interference with wireless comms should not be happening either. Something else is going on there. The new DECT 6.0 phones are in 1920-1930 MHz, older ones in 900Mhz and 2.4Ghz and 5.8Ghz. The vast majority of wireless Ethernet is at 2.4GHz though the A and the new N use 5GHZ

I was not advocating the pellet gun or even a paintball gun, but I have had to repair/replace cameras that had run afoul of them and vandalism is not covered under warranty.

Overall, the laser pointer may be your best approach. AC powered, and turn it on and off randomly. There are a number of low cost ones available on the web. Test it on a weekend and see if she comes out to see what the problem is. Since its a high wall install, its doubtful she will actually get up there and detect the laser. Fog and smoke will make the laser visible, so watch that as well.

Again, I would like to know what law was cited in making your neighbor turn off exterior security lighting.

If it’s any help, the frequency is the same as the Mac Airport because the Mac is no longer usable (the pc is) on the wireless network. Maybe I can find out the frequency of the Mac Airport?

I’ll check out some of the Mac sites and get back to you.
